Audience members describe Madeline Bersamina’s recent solo work as “brilliant,” “sublime” and “perfect and true.” Madeline sings a wide array of music but specializes in Baroque and Classical repertoire. Recent solo work includes Bach’s Mass in B Minor with the Orcas Choral Society, Handel’s Ode for St. Cecilia’s Day with Queen City Musicians, Schubert’s Mass in G with Edmonds Community College, Bach’s Mass in F and Telemann’s Ich danke dem Herrn with the Mother Lode Orchestra, Bach’s St. John Passion with Seattle Pro Musica, Handel’s Dixit Dominus with the American Handel Festival, and both the Pergolesi and Boccherini Stabat Mater with the Saint Joseph Church concert series.
An avid recitalist, Madeline was a finalist in the Ladies Musical Club 2013 Recital Competition. Madeline has been featured on recital series in California and Washington with repertoire ranging from Lili Boulanger, Leonard Bernstein, Lorenzo Palomo, and Jake Heggie. She has also performed programs of American art song in Germany with her longtime friend and musical collaborator, Christina Bach.
In 2014, Madeline formed Intimate Baroque with colleagues Rebekah Gilmore and Nancy Zylstra. She co-produced their inaugural concert and performed works by Bach, Schütz, and Rigatti for vocal quintet and period strings. Intimate Baroque is a program of Seattle Artists, a non-profit 501-c3 organization.
Madeline’s opera roles include Arethuze (Actéon), Belinda and Second Woman (Dido and Aeneas), Constance (Dialogues of the Carmelites), Lucy (The Telephone), and Pamina (The Magic Flute). She is also a dedicated choral artist and has performed with the Berwick Chorus of the Oregon Bach Festival, Tuscon Chamber Artists, Vox Humana Dallas, whateverandeveramen, Choral Arts, and Seattle Pro Musica. Madeline had the honor of singing with the Junges Stuttgarter Bach Ensemble of Bachakademie Stuttgart in 2014 and 2015, performing Bach’s motets, Easter Oratorio and Ascension Oratorio in Germany, Italy, and Tunisia. Additionally, she has served as cantor for Saint Joseph Church since 2007.
In addition to performance engagements, Madeline is a frequent adjudicator for vocal competitions and maintains an active voice studio. She completed her master of music in Voice Performance at the University of Washington and currently studies with Nancy Zylstra.
